Discover over 1,200 species of fish and if you are lucky, you might spot rare seasonal visitors like the gentle whale shark, endangered leatherback and loggerhead turtles, which nest along the beach shores from November to March.

Whether you are planning a family getaway, a group adventure or a special honeymoon, book your Thonga Beach Lodge stay with us and get a tick off the list, we promise to make it memorable.

The species called Leopard shark (Triakis semifasciata) in the U.S, is called a Zebra shark in South Africa. Conversely, the species South Africans call a Leopard shark (Stegostoma fasciatum) is referred to as a Zebra shark in the U.S.

The Zebra shark is a nocturnal hunter, resting on the sea floor during the day, unlike its counterpart the Leopard Shark, which are very social often found in groups that follow a hierarchy. Both diets consist of small fish, shrimp and crabs.

You can spot juvenile Zebra sharks with their yellowish skin with white stripes and spots whilst adults have brownish spots on the yellow background. Leopard Shark juveniles and adults have grey skin marked with distinctive black bars on the back and black spots on both sides.
