Kristof Goovaerts

Photographer and Chaperone

Kristof Goovaerts lives in Belgium and completed his military diving course in 2016. What followed was an incredible adventure travelling and diving Bali, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Azores, Malta, France, Holland, Croatia and South Africa.

“My first trip to South Africa was a non-diving trip, and I fell in love with the country from the beginning. I have since returned five times of which four have included diving.”

A lengthy dive trip to Malta included joining an archaeological project and working as a support diver. In 2020 Kristof completed his Tek certification in Belgium, with knowledge of Tek diving due to his military course, he wanted to expand his travel and photography opportunities further.

Kristof has been doing underwater photography, specifically focussing on South Africa where he has done a couple of dive trips. Since the completion of his rebreather diving, it has helped his photography hugely. Kristof takes photographs to motivate non-divers to dive and for divers to visit the magnificent underwater world on the African coastline. He also wants to show the world that sharks are safe and not to be feared.

Kristof specialises in shark, wreck and portrait photography and he speaks Dutch, French and English.
