Stretching around 583 200 square kilometres across Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, the Kalahari Desert’s sand dunes compose the largest continuous expanse of sand on earth. A journey to the Kalahari is quite like catapulting into a parallel universe; a surreal experience where you feel really small, and everything around you looms larger than life. The panorama is breath taking – a heady collage of fiery sunsets and undulating crimson sands.
More than 162 kilomtres from civilisation, you’ll come upon Tswalu Kalahari Game Reserve. We’ve chosen this gem in the desert for the BLACK@ Guest for its sheer remoteness, it’s magnificent landscapes and the sublime personalised hospitality of its hosts. Whether staying at Tarkuni, the former private family holiday home of the Oppenheimer’s (head of De Beers mining for 3 generations) or at Motse Lodge (with only 9 houses), you can rest assured that every need will be anticipated and met.
We’ve designed experiences for the BLACK@ Guest to fully commune with the elements on their own terms. From a picnic and a private stargazing session under the stars, to heading out on foot to track the endangered pangolin or black rhino. From riding on horseback with nothing but roan antelope and mountain zebra as company, to taking to the skies in a helicopter for a bird’s eye view of the landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see.
One thing is certain, the BLACK@ Guest will walk away from their desert experience both humbled and enriched. Sometimes being so far from where life is happening is right where life is discovered.
