BA INCREASES FLIGHT FREQUENCIES
British Airways has increased its flight frequencies on its route network commencing mid-September 2019. British Airways will operate 34 additional flights a week on routes serviced from Johannesburg, which includes Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth as well as between Cape Town and Durban. British Airways will continue to service their various sub-Saharan African destinations, including Harare, Livingstone, Victoria Falls, Windhoek and Mauritius.

NGOMA SAFARI LODGE JOINS MACHABA SAFARIS
Africa Albida Tourism and Machaba Safaris have announced that Ngoma Lodge PTY LTD has been purchased by Machaba Safaris effective from 1 August 2019. The management and staff will all remain at Ngoma Safari Lodge, and will continue to deliver great experiences. Africa Albida Tourism aims to focus on their core destination and properties in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

EASTERN CAPE: KUZUKO LODGE RENOVATIONS
Most of the disruptive construction work that took place at Kuzuko Lodge concluded on 5 August, with the remaining projects which include painting and finishing off the decor, is set to be completed on 12 August 2019.

LIMPOPO: NEW OFFERINGS AT MAKANYI GAME LODGE
Makanyi Private Game Lodge in the Timbavati Game Reserve will offer a bespoke ‘menu’ of experiences to guests reserving exclusive-use bookings from 2020. In addition to the safari experience, individual exclusive-use guests or exclusive-use parties of up to 16 staying in Makanyi’s 7 luxury suites and private villa can tailor their time according to wellness, bush education, food and wine experience and photography. A combination of tailored yoga, Pilates and mindfulness tuition is available. Guests can experience hands-on wildlife education and experience expert tutelage in bushcraft and survival skills under the direction of an expert guide. Guests can learn the fundamentals of South African cuisine, with cooking lessons from a top South African chef, along with wine tasting from local winemakers. Guests can also improve their wildlife photography skills with guidance from a professional wildlife photographer. Makanyi offers the very latest photographic equipment for guests to rent if they don’t have their own equipment. In-house development facilities are available as well.

KENYA: ACCORHOTELS EXPANDS IN NAIROBI
AccorHotels is set to open a new 334-room hotel in Nairobi in the last quarter of this year. The Pullman Hotel, in Westlands, Nairobi, will include 4 dining venues, meeting and conference facilities, a gym, swimming pool, and a spa. Key markets in Accor’s growth plan include opening 7 hotels in Ethiopia and 3 hotels in South Africa by next year.

KENYA: NEW BUSH CAMP SET TO OPEN
The new Mara Treetops Tented Camp in Kenya opened in July and is a combination of a safari lodge, tented camp and a hotel. Located at the junction of the Mara’s 4 game-viewing areas, the camp offers 5 tented suites, a family tent, honeymoon suite and standard tents with each tent having a private balcony overlooking the Talek River. All beds have been custom designed and locally made using bush logs while the camp has been designed and furnished with elements from all over the world. Guests can enjoy activities like game drives, guided nature walks, bush dinners/breakfasts, Maasai cultural visits, bird watching, sunset picnics and balloon safaris. Mara Treetops is a 6 hour drive from Nairobi, 45 minutes from the Wilson airport or 2 hours from the coastal region to Olkiombo Airstrip in Masai Mara.

ZIMBABWE: UPGRADES AT ZIM BORDER
The Maitengwe Border Post at the Zimbabwe-Botswana border is undergoing an upgrade and modernisation development to expedite the movement and clearance of tourists between the countries. The development will help increase the number of people who are going to travel between the two countries and is part of the national programme of expanding and modernising all border posts.
