LIMPOPO: SECURITY UPDATE AT KLASERIE PRIVATE NATURE RESERVE
The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve has implemented a new security access system where guest passport numbers and email addresses are required in advance of their arrival. This is needed for a special ‘QR Code’ that will be sent to the guest, which they need to show at the gate to gain access into the reserve. The new security measures will help lessen the risk of possible poachers trying to gain access to the reserve.

NORTH WEST: VALLEY OF WAVES REOPENS
Sun International has announced that the Valley of Waves reopened on 7 December 2019 following previous communication advising that it would be closed.

WESTERN CAPE: BOSCHENDAL EXPANDS
South Africa’s second oldest wine farm, Boschendal, is set to launch a new tented camp in March next year. Situated in The Greater Simonsberg Conservancy, the 7 luxury tents will be designed to blend into the surrounding scenery, featuring a spacious bedroom, bathroom and private deck with a backdrop of the Simonsberg mountain range. Guests can enjoy activities like horseback riding, guided hikes and yoga.

WESTERN CAPE: NEWMARK HOTELS EXPANDS
The Rockefeller Hotel is set to launch in mid-2021 in Cape Town, managed by Newmark Hotels, Reserves, Lodges and Residences. The 300-room hotel will feature a conference facility, laundry service, all-day dining, deli, bike room, gym and resident DJ. Other features include an on-site spa and rooftop pool that overlooks Table Mountain, and the hotel will be within reach of restaurants, boutique stores and cultural attractions in the Mother City.

BOTSWANA: NEW LODGE-TO-LODGE SAFARI SET TO LAUNCH
Wilderness Dawning is set to launch a new, small group lodge-to-lodge safari itinerary, commencing in April 2020. The itinerary will take guests through the highlights of Botswana, from Chobe River, through the Chobe National Park to Savuti, Khwai, and Moremi Game reserve. Accommodation will be in comfortable permanent camps and lodges. Wilderness Dawning has entered into a partnership with Natural Selection and is set to continue conservation efforts in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. Conservation initiatives include herbivore and lion research and environmental education for children in local communities.

KENYA: BUSH AND BEACH COMBO LAUNCHES
The privately-owned Cottar’s Bush Villa and Alfajiri Villa have partnered to create a safari and beach combination. The private journeys are for groups of 6 people upwards and are available across 2019 and 2020. Cottar’s Bush Villa includes dedicated staff of 8 and features a large living room, dining room, a viewing deck, 5 en-suite bedrooms and a private swimming pool. Cottar’s Bush Villa borders the Maasai Mara and Serengeti game reserves and provides a private-stay option for up to 12 guests. Alfajiri features 3 villas, each with its own butler, swimming pool and beach view. Stays include meals, a daily massage, a driver on demand and a nanny service.

ZIMBABWE: VICTORIA FALLS UPDATE
The water levels of the Victoria Falls fluctuate dramatically throughout the year and is heavily dependent on the amount of rain that falls in the catchment area above it. The rainy season is normally between November and March, so the Falls are at their fullest between March and June, and at their lowest between August and November. According to the Zambezi River Authority, the water levels at the Victoria Falls were especially low during the dry months, receiving below normal rainfall during the 2018/2019 rainy season. Good news though… The tides turned in mid-November, and flows at Victoria Falls are once again on the rise. According to the latest data, the flow at the Victoria Falls was 227 cubic metres per second on 2 December, compared to 207m3/s on 26 November, and 189m3/s on 19 November.
