SAA OPERATIONS RESUMED
South African Airways (SAA) reached an agreement with the striking union members and has restored operations. SAA restored a full flight schedule in stages over the weekend, and as of Sunday 24 November, all operations, including domestic, regional and international, are fully operational.
KWAZULU-NATAL: LONGEST PROMENADE OPENS IN DURBAN
The longest beachfront promenade in Africa officially opened in Durban on 16 November 2019. The 750m extension has increased the promenade to over 8km, from Blue Lagoon to the Durban Harbour mouth, and offers linkages to all the beaches on the city’s eastern boundary, tourist centres, the uMgeni River estuary cycle route and a jogging track. The promenade extension is wheelchair friendly and boasts a first aid room, undercover parking bays and a lifeguard tower, all located between the harbour mouth and uShaka Marine World. Developments planned within this precinct include a 29-storey residential development, a hotel development and a retail mall.
MPUMALANGA: NEW DINING EXPERIENCE AT JOCK SAFARI LODGE
Jock Safari Lodge recently introduced riverbed dining as an exciting new dining option. Situated at the confluence of 2 rivers in the southwest corner of the Kruger National Park, the Mitomeni River and the Biyamiti River, the unique setting allows guests to enjoy a traditional BBQ/braai. The riverbed provides unobstructed views across the wilderness where guests can spot game passing by, enjoy vintage-style canvas safari chairs and oversized Persian cushions.
BOTSWANA: KER & DOWNEY ANNOUNCE OPENING DATES
Ker & Downey Botswana has announced that they will keep Kanana Camp and Dinaka Camp open through January and February next year. The properties usually close each year from 6 January and reopen on 1 March for maintenance and refurbishments, but a new system has been implemented allowing these operational functions to take place throughout the year. Dinaka and Kanana will remain open all year while Shinde and Shinde Enclave from 1 March 2020 – 5 January 2021, Okuti from 1 March 2020 – 5 January 2021 and Footsteps Across the Delta from 1 March 2020 – 30 November 2020.
TANZANIA: WHITE SANDS RESORT REOPENS
The White Sands Resort and Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam has reopened following a fire last year that claimed part of the hotel. The resort’s Mchanga Restaurant was rebuilt and features an upgraded gym and a new café. The gym offers views of the ocean and features new equipment, as well as male and female saunas for post-workout relaxation. The resort is 25km from Julius Nyerere International Airport and 10km from Mlimani Exhibition Centre. There are 15 meeting and conference rooms on offer, equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi and can host up to 300 delegates.
ZIMBABWE: FASTJET ZIMBABWE ANNOUNCES NEW ROUTE
Fastjet Zimbabwe is set to launch flights between Bulawayo and Johannesburg from 5 December 2019. The airline will operate 22 scheduled flights per week with double-daily frequencies from Monday to Friday and one flight on Sundays. On Mondays to Fridays, the first flight will depart Johannesburg at 8:30am and arrive in Bulawayo at 9:50am. The second flight will depart Johannesburg at 9:10pm, landing in Bulawayo at 10:30pm. The early return flight will depart Bulawayo at 6:40am and arrive in Johannesburg at 8am and the later flight will depart at 6:10pm and land in Johannesburg at 7:30pm. On Sundays, the flight will depart Johannesburg at 9:10pm, arriving in Bulawayo at 10:30pm. The return flight will depart Bulawayo at 6:10pm and arrive in Johannesburg at 7:30pm.
ZIMBABWE: NYUNI MOUNTAIN LODGE REFURBISHMENT
Nyuni Mountain Lodge in the Masvingo province is undergoing a refurbishment that is set to be completed by the end of the year. Re-thatching has already been completed on some of the chalets and the lodge will remain open as the renovations are being implemented in phases. Other work on the 10 chalets and a guest house will include repainting and tiling, replacing the current ceilings with new ones and general maintenance work. The lodge features 2 conferencing facilities that accommodate 30 and 70 people respectively. Guests can enjoy nature walks, fishing and boat cruises on Lake Mutirikwi, hiking on Nyuni Mountain and village tours.
