NEW BIRD HIDE UNVEILED AT MHARA RIVER CAMP
Ideaways Africa has introduced a new bird hide at Mhara River Camp in Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park. Located just over 50 metres from the main camp area, the hide provides guests with a peaceful spot to observe and photograph the park’s impressive birdlife.
Mhara River Camp is well known for its rich variety of habitats, including riverine woodlands, open floodplains and scenic escarpments. These environments attract a wide range of bird species such as bee-eaters, African pittas and raptors. The new bird hide offers visitors an even closer connection to the beauty and diversity of the region
FLYSAFAIR ADDS CAPE TOWN–HOEDSPRUIT FLIGHTS
From 2 October, FlySafair has launched a new service between Cape Town and Hoedspruit, operating 3 times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Flights will depart Cape Town at 12h15 and arrive in Hoedspruit at 14h45. The return leg will depart Hoedspruit at 15h20, arriving back in Cape Town at 18h05.
AIRLINK BOOSTS FLEET WITH NEW EMBRAER E195-E2 AIRCRAFT
Airlink has taken delivery of the first 3 of 10 new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, introducing enhanced business-class comfort and extra legroom for travellers.
Each aircraft seats up to 136 passengers in a modern 2-by-2 layout, featuring 20 spacious seats with power outlets and individual service units.
The new jets will enter service in mid-December, strengthening Airlink’s capacity on popular routes such as Johannesburg–Cape Town, just in time for the busy summer season.
CAPE TOWN STRENGTHENS N2 AND AIRPORT SAFETY
As part of its Integrated Freeway Safety Plan, the City of Cape Town is strengthening security along the N2 highway and airport precinct, key routes for travellers. Among 700 new police officers deployed citywide, 40 metro police officers will focus on these high-traffic areas.
The initiative combines increased officer presence with advanced technology such as automated licence plate recognition and dashcams that can identify stolen vehicles, helping to ensure safer travel for residents and visitors alike.
MOUNT NELSON TO OPEN NEW RESTAURANT AND SUITE
This December, Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town, will unveil Amura by Ángel León, the chef’s first restaurant outside Spain and his African debut. The restaurant offers an immersive marine dining experience inspired by the Cape coastline, featuring innovative sea-sourced ingredients and sustainable culinary practices. Guests can choose à la carte or tasting menus highlighting unsung fish species, kelp, wild herbs, and fire-cooked dishes.
The interiors, designed by Tristan du Plessis, draw inspiration from Cape Town’s kelp forests, creating a cinematic, marine-inspired atmosphere.
